Things to do in Naples at least once in life

I admit it, I am biased, I have written dozens of guides but talking about Naples would be like talking about me, of a city that I left 20 years ago and which I find, after many years, completely different, certainly improved a lot on the thrust of a growing tourism in recent years that has begun to appreciate the city not only making it a point of passage to then proceed to Pompei, Capri or Ischia islands or to the Amalfi Coast.
Thus the closure of part of Caracciolo and Partenope buolevards occurred with the mayor De Magistris and initially bitterly criticized by the Neapolitans concerned about the intensification of city traffic jam, eventually finding a winning card, returning in fact the most beautiful and fascinating part of the city to pedestrians, joggers, bicycles and tourists who can enjoy the view with Vesuvius as a backdrop without having to be careful to the cars.



The Boom is evident, Bed and Breakfasts have sprung up like mushrooms especially in the historic center around Via Toledo, thus transforming what until a few years ago in the evening was an area to avoid due to the proximity of the Spanish Quarters, in a safe and frequented at all hours of the day and night with restaurants, pizzerias and street food clubs open until late at night.
So live Naples with security and serenity, the Naples of the snatches of a time fortunately no longer exists, walk quietly in the alleys of the city even if, as would happen in any other metropolis in the world, perhaps better not to show off gold or jewels and not because we are in Naples, even in Rome, Milan, London or Paris we would run the same risk.
We go around the city ideally together, I make you visit places that I love with photos that I took during my frequent Neapolitan excursions.
Leave all kinds of prejudices at home, so let yourself be carried away by emotions, flavors, scents, colors, infinite historical and natural beauty and above all by the desire to live a strong experience because Naples is truly a unique place in the world able to give positive energies like few other cities are able to transmit and I do not say it only because i am Neapolitan.

• A first way to know Naples is definitely a walk inside Borgo Marinaio that rises around the Castel dell'Ovo on Megaride small island, the place where the city was founded in the eighth century with the name of Parthenope.

• Walk the beautiful Via Posillipo about 5 km long from Largo Sermoneta to Capo Posillipo to admire the amazing Neapolitan villas overlooking the sea and surrounded by the nature.
  
  
  
  
  Immediately after the famous Circolo Posillipo we will pass in front of Palazzo Donn'Anna, one of the most famous in Naples built in 1640 at the behest of Anna Carafa, wife of a Spanish viceroy, who called to make it what was at the time the architect most famous in the city, Cosimo Fanzago. Unfortunately, the Palace was never finished due to the untimely Anna death following the expulsion of the Spaniards from the city.
  
  
  
  A little further on, let yourself be seduced by the colors of these small villages that seem almost out of time, suspended between sky and sea.
  
  
  
  At the height of Piazza San Luigi, a piece of pizza at the electric oven is mandatory and above all an amazing ice cream at Bilancione while you enjoy the view.
  For the coffee right next to Intenso, enjoy a good Passalacqua, considered to be one of the best Neapolitan blend. As restaurants, my favorites are Il Poeta in the beautiful Piazza Salvatore di Giacomo while, almost at the end of the route, Pruneto with fresh fish specialties and an excellent cellar with Campania wines from Falanghina grapes (exceptional that of Cantine Astroni to be combined with spaghetti with the sea urchins) or Fiano di Avellino (the best is without any doubt Clelia Romano) Greco di Tufo (Cantine Bambinuto) Pallagrello bianco (Alois and Vestini Campagnano) and Ravello Bianco (Fiorduva by Marisa Cuomo the top, excellent for Eva by Tenute San Francesco) produced on the Amalfi Coast.
  
  
  

• Enter inside Galleria Umberto built in 1887 in honour of Umberto I Italy king.
  
  
  
  
  From via Toledo gallery entrance, Sfogliatella Mary is considered the best in the city together with Attanasio in Garibaldi square.

• An aperitive along Baretti Area in Chiaia at Ba Bar or Cantine Sociali
  
  
  

• Visit Royal Palace in Plebiscito square

• A walk in the historical center starting from Piazza del Gesù along via Mezzocannone
  
  
  
  in the university area a visit to the spectacular Santa Chiara Monastery Complex dating back to 1300 and to Sammartini Veiled Christ of 1753 inside San Severo Chapel.
  Beautiful atmospheres in the evening along Federico II university buildings between murales and street art.
  
  
  
  In the area my advice is Taverna dell'Arte restaurant with a revisited Neapolitan cuisine where cod is the master (around 45 euro each)
