Amalfi Coast - from Praiano to Ravello

Just a few kilometers away and we reach Praiano, a small but picturesque town that is worth to visit. The country is divided in two parts like most of amalfi coast countries: an upper part, where in summer you can watch music and prose shows organized by the municipality, and a lower part with the notable church of San Gennaro and the adjacent steep road leading down to the sea after several steps.

We have lunch or dinner in front of a wonderful view on a terrace overlooking a breathtaking scenery consisting of Positano, the Galli islands in the background and Capri Faraglioni, intimate atmosphere, refined and tasty dishes, very good value for money, like dishes catch of the day in salt, grilled or crazy water and then salt cod parmigiana with borage, red snapper ravioli with sauteed spinach and fried calamari, risotto with cuttlefish and broccoli, the dolphin fish fillet with potatoes, stuffed rib of pork provolone del Monaco with a salad of escarole and papaccelle to finish the house tiramisu with wild strawberries at Osteria Il Pino in G. Capriglione street, 13 (089.874400) in Praiano.

For an appetizer I recommend the delicious wine bar Vivaro, small but well-kept, and for dinner the rustic, simple but tasty trattoria San Gennaro family restaurant that offers all the typical dishes of the coast at a fair price and located just above Praiano church square.

After dinner in the direction of Amalfi in the natural fjord of Furore a small fishing village with bars and restaurants all overlooking the sea and unique charm. From there, walk through a small path along the rock to reach African disco. Very impressive the huge fishing net on the seabed. The restaurant is also accessible from the road by elevator or by sea from Positano by small boats starting at 11pm only in August.

The high part of Furore is characterized by terraced vineyards overlooking the sea and dug in the rock cellars. Marisa Cuomo with his Doc Amalfi Coast Fiorduva has made the world aware of the aromas and flavors of the area through its award-winning wine that best of all is suitable as an accompaniment to seafood dishes typical of the coast of Amalfi as Scialatielli prepared chopped parsley, pepper and parmesan cheese and topped with fresh tomatoes sauce and clams or squid with potatoes. Produced by native vines phenyl and broom, typical in the windswept rocks, like flavor reminiscent of apricots and broom flowers, with exotic fruit recalls. The taste is soft, dense and characterized by a significant persistent aroma of dried apricots, raisins and canditi.Della same company, Falanghina grape and biancolella, respectable even White Furore.

Just seven kilometers and we reach Amalfi, in the past maritime republic with Genoa, Pisa and Venice for the Mediterranean control and still every year a traditional regata of the ancient Maritime Republics. Amalfi is charactered by Saint Andrea cathedral steps in Sicilian-Arabic style and patron of the city as well as by the presence of numerous workshops for the tasting of typical liqueurs of the coastal and antique dealers.

Shortly after the charming Amalfi coast village Atrani sadly famous for the river of mud that hit the country in September 2010 with dramatic consequences. Along the main road the awarded restaurant A Paranza to taste flag fish rolls, shrimp in a sauce of chickpeas, marinated tuna, paccheri crock, fish soup. Remarkable the wine list and ab solutly to taste Greco di Tufo Pietracupa, Vigna Cicogna Benito Ferrara or Fiano di Avellino Colli di Lapio.

Most of the shows are held in Villa Rufolo (terrace and lookout) seat of the European University Centre for Cultural Heritage that here organizes courses, seminars and concerts.

To visit Duomo with its museum, San Francesco, San Giovanni del Toro, Santa Maria a Gradillo and Annunziata churchs, Villa Cimbrone, Auditorium Oscar Niemeyer opened on January 2010 and Ravello Festival events.
